East Coast Marine Service
Here's a little background on how East Coast Marine
got its start.
Bryan G. Tuckey started East Coast Marine Service, Inc. on
April 1, 1994 at the age of 23. His experience in the boating industry began
many years prior. At a young age, Bryan was interested in the mechanics of
motors and electricity. When Bryan's family moved to Sea Isle City, NJ in the
early eighties, Bryan found himself surrounded in the boating world. At the age
of ten, Bryan started working at a boat rental as an attendant on the fuel dock.
He started helping in the shop doing small repairs on the rental fleet motors.
After a few years of assisting on the repairs, he landed a job as a mechanic at
another outfit in Sea Isle City. When Bryan turned sixteen, he moved back to
Norristown and got a job at a local boat shop. He worked full time there while
finishing high school. During that time, Bryan attended marine motor sponsored
technical schools and earned Certified Mercruiser Marine Engine certifications
and a few outboard certifications.
After High School, Bryan accepted a job as head mechanic at an
area boat dealership and was soon promoted to service manager, overseeing four
mechanics, as well as a full time detailer and fiberglass man. Continuing his
marine engine schooling, Bryan qualified in 1991 for the opportunity to become a
Johnson and Evinrude Outboard Master Certified Technician. Bryan successfully
completed this before the age of twenty-one.
By 1994 Bryan was ready to start out on his own. He rented a
small one bay shop in Norristown, and called his business East Coast Marine. He
decided to add a store and used boat sales. After incorporating in 1995, his
second year in business, Bryan hired his first employee. Bryan’s business
continued to grow, and in 1997 East Coast Marine Service Inc. moved into a
larger location in Trappe PA about six miles west of Norristown.
Now with the business located on a main road, East Coast Marine
became more widely known. In 1999, Bryan bought out another business, Phil’s
Boats of Spring City, PA. This was primarily for the acquisition of the canvas
shop, which was their specialty. That same year the East Coast Marine's 2400 sq.
foot shop was expanded, adding two more service bays and increasing the size of
the service facilities to just under 5000 sq. feet. With this added space, Bryan
was able to hire a part time store person.
In 2001 East Coast Marine acquired another local boat shop,
Grubb’s Marine, also of Spring City, PA, . This enabled East Coast Marine
Service to enter the fast paced world of internet sales with a growing internet
parts business OldMercs.com. It also helped increase our staff of trained,
qualified personnel and expanded our product line to include Mercury
Outboards.
To keep pace with the growing demand of our customers, and the
ever expanding line of new product in our store, in late 2004 we moved into our
new 15,000 sq foot facility located in Limerick PA Today East Coast Marine boasts an experienced service team
specializing in Mercury, Mercruiser, Honda, Evinrude, Johnson, Yamaha, and Volvo
products. East Coast offers a broad selection of new and used boat sales,
including Everglades, Monterey, Glastron, and McKee Craft boats. The store room
is filled to the brim with a complete selection of marine supplies and
accessories by the names of Perko, Attwood, O'Brien, H.O.Sports, Sea Dog, Load-Rite and hundreds
more. We have a well stocked parts department and a busy mail order division.
